Diving Victoria's Health Statement

As a part of the Diving Victoria community, we at RDC follow all guidelines and recommendations that they put into place. Please see the the following statement from Diving Victoria below regarding COVID-19 (also known as ‘coronavirus’).

Diving Victoria's Health Statement - March 2020

The Diving Victoria Board wishes to reassure our diving community that we are in close consultation with the State Government of Victoria and other key stakeholders, and are monitoring the public health situation and any possible impacts as a result of COVID-19 (also known as ‘coronavirus’).

Sport and Recreation Victoria have recently circulated the following information:

  • Currently there are no known transmissions of the infection in the community in Victoria. All known cases in Victoria are due to travel overseas or through a direct link with a traveller.

  • At this point in time our advice around major events/sporting events/creative events and other public gatherings is that they can still go ahead, and people should go about their lives as normal.

Therefore, until further directives from the State Government of Victoria in relation to group gatherings due to COVID-19 concerns are received, all Diving Victoria events will be going ahead as planned.

In reference to members and participants of Diving Victoria including all affiliated clubs, individuals are advised not to attend diving related programs, competitions or facilities if:

  • They have been in any of the declared zones in the past two weeks (check here and include high / moderate risk zones).

  • They have been in contact with anyone who has been travelling in those zones, or concerned that they have been in contact with anyone that has Coronavirus.

  • They have any symptoms which may include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough sore throat, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

For sport specific advice, please refer to the Australian Institute of Sport webpage. This is an excellent resource and is updated regularly. It provides information in a number of areas, including travelling to sporting events, athletes arriving or returning to Australia, and FAQ’s relating to COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The website also links to other sources of information including the Australian Government Department of Health and WHO situation reports.

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS FOR EVERYONE

  • Diving Victoria recommends all participants, coaches and spectators be made aware of the following attached guidelines: Participants, coaches, officials and spectators should self-assess whether to exclude themselves from training or competition programs.

  • Participants, coaches, officials and spectators with flu like symptoms should seek medical attention and undertake testing if required and not attend training or competition for 14 days.

  • Participants, coaches, and officials should observe a high level personal hygiene, and provide hand sanitiser/wash facilities as appropriate.

Diving Victoria will continue to seek and follow advice from Diving Australia and relevant government agencies and will provide briefings to members, as required.
